Mow lawn taller to save water

Re "No need to let your grass die" (Page A1, July 7): In addition to watering tips in the article, keeping your lawnmower sharp and setting the height so grass stays at least 3 inches high will help lawn survive with less watering as taller grass shades the roots and also helps shade out weeds.

Mulching mowers return the grass clippings to the lawn which then can retain more moisture by reducing evaporation and run-off.
