Continue to reinvest in arts in schools

Re "Districts differ in spending new money" (Page A1, July 6): Student involvement in arts is linked to higher academic performance. To support that, we need to continue to reinvest in arts in the schools. Three Sacramento school districts, Twin Rivers, Sacramento City and Robla, are partnering with the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission on the Arts for Any Given Child program, which brought eight artists and 12 arts organizations into 62 schools, serving over 20,000 students this year and more than 120,000 students since its inception.

Despite recent education funding formula changes, this program helps counteract the socioeconomic issues that allow some students to have access to arts education and other students to have none. School district contributions, Friends of the Arts Commission, philanthropy and private donations fund the program.

We work together to ensure every student has a chance to put their creative and critical thinking skills to work at school and later, in the workplace.
