Re :"Water rules may get teeth" (Page A1, July 10): So it begins. It starts with tougher rules regarding water use. What's next, more restrictive rules regarding camping in State and National forests to prevent wildfires?
As ocean acidification damages shellfish, how about stricter regulations to monitor what can safely be sold to consumers?. How about more restrictive rules on where homes can be built and how they must be designed to protect the deeply indebted National Flood Insurance Program? The possibilities are endless. This is the worst nightmare for those concerned about government intrusion in our lives.
Let's wake up. A free market solution like a carbon tax, which is revenue neutral when all funds are returned to households, is a start. Either we allow the free market to provide efficient solutions to climate change or we default to government regulations. What say you?
