Re "Area has more time to review oil trains" (Page A1, July 12): Kudos to Tony Bizjak's coverage of proposals to run two trains daily carrying crude oil through Sacramento, Roseville, West Sacramento, Davis and more cities. We who care about human life, precious waterways, first responders and climate change, need to speak out. We can start by commenting on the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the proposed Valero Rail Project in Benicia at BeniciaIndependent.com.

First responders are ill-equipped and untrained to deal with the inevitable spills and mega-explosions of oil cars as evidenced in the spills and explosions in the last year. U.S. Federal Railroad Administration is able to inspect only two-tenths of one percent of our rail operations yearly.

Let's change the ways we live. During World War II, we did that as a nation. We can do it again because we need to leave the oil in the ground.
