Re "The return of the grizzly" (Forum, July 13): Before we reintroduce an apex predator back into the food chain, has anyone considered what they will eat? We have depleted the deer herd and wild salmon runs are meager at best. How will an 800-pound grizzly get enough food in his belly to survive the winter?
The people living in the Sierras whose livestock, pets and even friends and family will be on the menu will have no say in this matter. The environmentalists in large urban population centers will ultimately determine whether the grizzly bear will return.
The bears are gone from California and they are gone for a reason. Let's do the wise thing and let them stay that way.
