Return of the grizzly: bad idea

Re "The return of the grizzly" (Forum, July 13): Bringing grizzly bears back to California is a bad idea.
It is true the brown bear was saved from extinction and can be seen in zoos, and they are amazing animals to see. The question to be asked is, why did our grandparents eliminate them from California's wild places in the first place?
This animal is a top predator in direct competition with man. When they attack, they can not be stopped unless you are a good shot with a high-powered hunting rifle.
Also, brown bears would be in competition with our other bear problem: the black bears. Reintroducing them back into California's wild places, is a bad idea.
