Misguided cartoon

Re Jim Morin's political cartoon published on the opinion page, July 14: What's worse: living in a country where politicians vocally disagree with each other, or living in constant fear of gangs and drug cartels who threaten to kill you or your family?

The choice may seem obvious, but evidently not to Jim Morin, whose cartoon shows two asylum seekers watching in horror as some American politicians argue. "Maybe," one of them says, "We'll get lucky and they'll deport us."

This absurdly wrong cartoon belies the attitude of the ugly American who knows or cares little for the problems faced by people who live outside his little bubble and thinks that his own problems must be the worst in the whole world.
