Re "Teacher tenure ruling gives a chance to broaden opportunity" (Viewpoints, July 14): Neel Kashkari lets his ideology interfere with his logic. He argues that Judge Treu's decision striking down tenure will guarantee education as a civil right. Midstream in his gushing, Kashkari points out that bad teachers are concentrated in school districts with high concentrations of minority students.
He avoids telling us where the good teachers are concentrated. Good teachers are concentrated in districts where teacher pay is higher and schools are well-funded. Civil rights are guaranteed by public budgets. How will the elimination of tenure solve the inequality of funding around which the school system is organized?
Oh, now I understand: turning teachers into flexible employees like those at Walmart is Kashkari's solution to public funding of education.
