Jobs in area: An illusion

I've been to many job fairs and career centers, submitted applications online, participated in a program that helps assist with securing employment and have not found gainful employment yet. As an older worker who has to work, I keep hope alive.

In my recent trips to attend those job fairs, all they give you is brochures but no calls/contact. Are employers sponsoring these events to make it seem like they are hiring? Or perhaps to make it seem like the job market is opening up?

I think it's all an illusion.
