Re "Elk Grove plan goes after jobs" (, July 15): The jobs this plan goes after will be in the construction of new homes and low wage retail in restaurants and strip malls. Elk Grove has issued zero building permits for industrial projects this year. With extreme drought and water rationing, why should we even consider more rooftops?

I won't mention discouraging immigration to our region/state when we can't provide water for feeding our own population. Why should developers get rich while poor schmucks like me let my garden die? Oh, they're on the City Council and they voted to approve it. Follow the money.
