Palestinian sympathizers don't see threat to Israel

Re "Hunger strike in Gaza" (Letters, July 16): Some letters in the paper sympathizing with the Palestinians do not seem to understand what Israel is facing on a daily basis. One letter mentioned "the ongoing carnage in Gaza." The terrorist group Hamas is allied with the Palestine government. Hamas has been sending rockets and suicide bombers into Israel for years.

Israel is surrounded by enemies. Iran has rockets with Israel's name on them. Hamas hides their rocket launchers among civilians - in schools, in homes, in mosques - always using civilians as shields. Israel is our only ally in that part of the world. Israel agreed to a cease fire. The Palestinians and Hamas did not and continued their barrage of rockets, etc.

Some Palestinian sympathizers might rethink for whom they sympathize.
