Aydinov is wrong about Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict

Re "Legislature should stay out of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict" (Viewpoints, July 5): The article suggesting that California avoid the Nagorno Karabagh conflict is pure fantasy.

To be sure, the Armenians of then-Soviet Armenia peacefully protested for reunification with Karabagh, which resulted in the pogroms in Baku and Sumgait where Armenians were murdered, beaten, raped and driven out of Azerbaijan. Perhaps Elnur Aydinov was too young to remember that aspect of his story.

Furthermore, the government of Karabagh is a fully functioning, democratic government supplying the citizens of this independent republic with all the services a government is supposed to supply. For Aydinov to suggest that the debated and voted on AJR 32 is wrong and that these legislators are too gullible to know the truth- all the while citing a 72-1 vote in favor of passage- is beyond fantasy.
