Re "Israeli forces roll into Gaza" (Page A1, July 18): The article says Israel launched its air and sea bombardments, and now its invasion "in response to rocket attacks from the Hamas controlled coastal enclave." This is far from the truth. All evidence indicates that the Palestinians fired their ineffective rockets in retaliation for the Israeli bombardments. Hamas refused the cease-fire since it was not even invited to the Egyptian-Israeli negotiations regarding a truce.

The Gaza enclave is a small Palestinian enclave. In this enclave, Israel created a true concentration camp for the 2 million Palestinians whom Israel evicted from central and southern Palestine in 1948. Israeli bombardments occur often against Gaza, and the present ground invasion is nothing less than brutal murder of Palestinians who cannot defend themselves against an Israel armed to the teeth.

It is about time we reconsider our unfair policy of blindly supporting Israel.
