Sunday July 20 was the 45th anniversary of the moon landing. Unfortunately, there was no mention of this amazing achievement in The Sacramento Bee.

Sacramento played a key role in the space program testing the third stage of the Saturn rocket, the S-IVB. The S-IVB was the stage which was fired to send the astronauts out of Earth's orbit and onto the moon.

Pictures from the Douglas Aircraft Sacramento Test Facility of the S-IVB are now available at the Sacramento Archives website at CityOfSacramento.org. Eventually all 400 pictures and research manuals will be available to the public.
