Remember 1988 downing of a passenger plane

Re "U.S. officials: We still don't know who shot down Malaysian airliner" (Nation/World, July 22): In 1988, the U.S. shot down an Iranian passenger airline within the Persian Gulf, killing 300 people.

Where was the world anger and outrage? Nowhere. What was U.S. response? We thought it was a military plane, that's all.
