Re "State's on a warming trend in 2014" (Capitol & California, July 22): The records keep coming. NOAA announced that global average temperature reached a new high in the month of May and then again in June. The National Weather Service reported that the first six months of this year were the hottest in California history. Up north, Washington is experiencing the largest wildfire in its history. The Carlton complex fire has spread over 400 square miles.
In December 2015, the best minds of 179 countries will gather to determine how to keep the rise in mean global temperature to no more than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. They will look to America for leadership. However, whatever plan America puts forward will lack credibility as long as a majority of congressional Republicans do not believe in supporting solutions to climate change.
And the records keep coming.
