An important reason for tenure

Re "Good teachers deserve respect, tenure" (Another View, Aug. 2): One of the most important reasons for teacher tenure is to encourage teachers to be creative and innovative so that the classroom stays relevant as time moves on. It is difficult enough to change in order to stay current, and it is reassuring for the teacher not to have to battle the pressure of the status quo if he/she chooses to create a challenging classroom without depending upon typical work sheets.

Teacher tenure does give that type of assurance. Steve Abbott left out this important reason for teacher tenure in his well-worded and thoughtful article on why good teachers deserve respect and tenure.
