Re "Cash pinch is silencing our musicians" (Our Region, Aug. 3): Key words in this article were, "some of the problems stemmed from the fact that when both organizations merged they discovered that only seven percent of their audiences overlapped."
As my grandchildren would say, "Duh." Isn't it time for the Philharmonic and the Opera to lovingly uncouple? Perhaps then, they can each develop marketing skills and efforts to boost support for each of these wonderful enrichments to our city.
A city our size should have a working Philharmonic and Opera that is supported by its politicians, corporations and sports backers, as well as the general population.
It's quite a commute to Modesto and Fresno. Our musicians must not be silenced.
