SB 270 doesn't help environment

Earlier this week, I saw a new television ad about SB 270, Sen. Alex Padilla's bill that would ban plastic bags in California. The ad was entertaining, because it included a couple of clowns, who basically try to make Padilla's effort out to be a joke.

After watching the ad and letting it sink in, I think the messaging is spot on. SB 270 bans the plastic bags we now get at the grocery store, but exempts bags that are five times thicker. How exactly does this help the environment?

On top of that, grocers get to charge fees for paper and these thicker plastic bags, and then they keep the fees as profits. I guess it's just another way for them to pick our pockets a little more.

This really is a joke.
