Re "Urgent cash call by music festival" (Our Region, Aug. 11): Ever since the inception of the Sacramento Jazz Festival, people have come from afar to enjoy it because it was unique and featured music they like. They rented hotels, brought motor homes and stayed all weekend.
It is no longer unique nor enjoyable to many. They have mixed pop music and whatever else into the mix, and the jazz aficionados are not going to attend. Why buy an expensive badge to hear what's being played on the radio and TV for free?
Also, if you want to attract the young crowd, get ready for the drugs and fights and other disruptions. Plus, the young do not spend money in comparison. The current direction will become just another yearly riot.
Those in charge just can't let a good thing alone. I volunteered for years. I won't be back unless the festival returns to its jazz roots.
