Shouldn't Medi-Cal be harder to qualify for?

Re "Can mom live alone?" (Page A1, Aug. 3): I read with interest the article on Alzheimer's. There is a pilot program for Medi-Cal recipients, where the affected individual's assisted living costs would be paid for. Without it, mom's house would have to be sold.

Hmm, mom has an asset that she is never going to move back into. Why the hesitation to sell it? Seems like this pilot Medi-Cal program is actually a full inheritance for the kids program. After all of mom's money is gone, that is when Medi-Cal should step in.
