Re "Robin Williams: mental illness kills" (Letters, Aug. 12): When my wife was chronically ill for 8 years, mostly in bed and having to use a walker, she also had to deal with depression brought on by her condition.
In reading about depression to attempt to gain an understanding of what she was going through, I discovered Darkness Visible: A Memoir of Madness by William Styron. The book illustrates the power of depression and is my recommendation for those attempting to understand why Robin Williams committed suicide.
