Re "All sides in water wars should get behind protecting Mokelumne River" (Viewpoints, Aug. 13): I agree with Jerry Meral and Bill Jennings' viewpoint on SB 1199 and the Mokelumne River. It's time to protect the Mokelumne River for future generations.

Voting to support the bill is a profoundly simple action but cannot be an easy question in a drought year. As a local resident and public official, I am sure that passing the bill is the right decision for Jackson and California. I hope the members of the Legislature will agree.
