Re "State's most conservative, liberal cities" (Data Center, Aug. 24): Why does the mass media, including The Bee, have this obsession with constantly categorizing people and causes and regions into liberal or conservative and red or blue?
Such categorization is very divisive. Instead we should all focus on what unites us: our common humanity and our stewardship of the earth. This includes taking care of each other and of our very precious land, air and water.
The way the terms liberal and conservative are used by mass media is very ambiguous, misleading and oversimplified, not to mention simply being overused.
Liberal means being open, generous and tolerant. Conservative means saving, protecting and conserving.
