Re "Elk Grove approves 100-acre land purchase" (Page A1, Aug. 28): Elk Grove residents were kept in the dark about this land purchase. Bee reporter Darrell Smith even said he didn't see the purchase because it was hidden on the "normal and routine" consent calendar on the agenda for the Aug. 27 Elk Grove City Council meeting until he received my email to City Manager Laura Gill questioning the item. Gill did not respond.
However, Gill did respond to Smith before the Aug. 27 Elk Grove Council City meeting that the land was purchased for the proposed MLS soccer stadium. There is nothing routine about spending six million dollars of taxpayer money without public input.
If the residents of Elk Grove are going to be asked to cough up 88 million dollars to pay for a soccer stadium, shouldn't we near such news about the proposed land purchase for said stadium from our elected leaders?
