The suspected gunman captured by an angry sports festival crowd after a Sunday shooting was identified by sheriff's officers Monday as Gurpreet Singh Gosal, 24, of Indianapolis.
Gosal was booked into Sacramento County's Main Jail on murder charges Monday afternoon, according to sheriff's Sgt. Tim Curran. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 9.
Meanwhile, Amandeep Singh Dhami of Elk Grove is still being sought, after being described by authorities Sunday as someone who left the sports festival soon after the shooting and who might have key information.
The shooting erupted Sunday afternoon at the Sacramento Sikh Society Sports Complex in the 7600 block of Bradshaw Road, where crowds had gathered to watch cricket, youth field hockey and a footrace.
Gunfire left Parmjit Pamma Singh dead and wounded a 38-year-old man who sheriff's deputies declined to identify because he is a crime victim. He remained hospitalized Monday, Curran said.
Afterward, the crowd mobbed one of the shooters, attacking him with cricket bats and hockey sticks, but the other gunman fled, deputies said.
The shooting apparently arose from an ongoing dispute, but Curran said he could not provide any information on what it involved.
