A Florida health care executive has been named chief operating officer for UC Davis Medical Center.
Vincent L. Johnson Jr. has served as vice president of administration at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla., since 2003. He has 20 years of experience as a hospital administrator, according to a UC Davis Health System news release.
The University of California Board of Regents on Friday approved Johnson for the post. Johnson is expected to begin his new job Oct. 27.
As chief operating officer for the medical center, Johnson will lead several departments, including ambulatory clinical services, a network of physician practices, professional services, supply chain management and health information management, the release states.
His annual salary will be $450,000, and he is eligible for bonuses of up to $90,000. Johnson also is eligible for reimbursement of other relocation costs, including a relocation allowance of up to $50,000.
As vice president for Shands Jacksonville, Johnson oversaw nine operational, nursing and ancillary departments, amounting to more than 725 employees and an operating net revenue of $100 million and operating expenses of $36 million each year. Johnson had an key role in shaping the direction for the 700-bed, academically affiliated non-profit medical center, the release states.
From 1988 to 2003, Johnson worked as an administrator for HCA Inc. at a number of its hospitals, including the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville and the Hendersonville Medical Center in Hendersonville, Tenn.
Johnson has a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Virginia and a master's in business administration from Averett University, the release states.
Johnson is married and has two children.
