Volunteers can join a Bureau of Land Management project day for fire rehabilitation work Oct. 18 in the Chappie-Shasta Off-Highway Vehicle Area.
Volunteers should bring gloves and wear sturdy work boots when they meet at 8 a.m. at the Shasta Dam parking area. The BLM will provide tools and water, event organizers said in a news release.
Volunteers will help install trail signs and spread straw on fire-damaged slopes to prevent erosion during the rainy season.
The Motion fire this summer burned 28,000 acres in the off-highway vehicle recreation area northwest of Redding and forced its closure to the public.
Several projects are scheduled to repair the damage.
