The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for today, saying low humidity and gusty winds mean continued high fire danger across the Sacramento region.
"We have a red flag warning in effect," said Cindy Palmer, a weather service meteorologist.
She said winds will be from 15 to 25 mph, gusting up to 35 mph.
Such conditions made firefighting difficult Saturday along the American River Parkway and in Placer County.
Other than that, however, the cooler than usual temperatures should make for great outdoors activity today, and sunny, clear days are expected next week.
Palmer said today's temperatures should be in the low to mid 70s, and the weather will gradually warm to 80 degrees Monday.
She said winds will decrease tonight, and on Monday, be in the 10-20 mph range.
The norms for Sacramento are 81 degrees, and the weather in recent days has been as much as15 degrees cooler.
The overnight low was 45 degrees -- about 10 degrees cooler than usual, she said.
Palmer said the cool weather stemmed from a trough of low pressure that stayed over the Great Basin states of Nevada and Utah. As that system moves east, temperatures will return to seasonal norms, she said.
The National Weather Service's 7-day forecast follows: today, high of 73; Monday, 80; Tuesday, 81; Wednesday, 81; Thursday, 81; Friday, 79; Saturday, 77.
All the days are expected to be sunny and clear.
