The Sacramento City Council is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a plan to build 5,092 housing units and a major shopping center along Interstate 5 next to the Meadowview neighborhood.
Delta Shores -- as the project is known -- is one of the last few large chunks of undeveloped property within Sacramento city limits. The city has been working since the early 1980s on a variety of plans for the 782-acre parcel.
Developer M&H Realty has agreed to pay for about half the $100 million estimated cost for extending Cosumnes River Boulevard from Highway 99 to Interstate 5, and to construct an interchange along the freeway. The company will front the city its share of the cost in order to get construction going, said principal planner Greg Bitter.
He said the interchange and six-lane road extension could be finished as early as winter of 2010. He said the developer intends to construct retail stores at the same time the road is being built.
