Sprinkler shares credit for controlling Best Buy blaze

A fire sprinkler system is being credited with helping contain a fire that burned in a Sacramento electronics store early this morning.

Sacramento Fire Department crews were called at 5:56 a.m. to the Best Buy store at 1901 Arden Way, said fire Capt. Jim Doucette.

"When the crews got here the building was full of smoke," he said.

It took firefighters awhile to find the fire, which was in a back storage room, Doucette said.

Firefighters controlled the blaze in about 15 minutes.

The store's fire sprinkler system activated and helped "keep the fire small," he said.

"If it wasn't for the sprinkler system, it probably would have been much worse," Doucette said.

Doucette said the smell of smoke is lingering inside the store, but he expects the retailer to remain open today.

Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused the blaze, but it appears to be mechanical in nature, likely a heater, Doucette said.

• Don't repeat the same comment over and over. We heard you the first time.

• Do not use the commenting system for advertising. That's spam and it isn't allowed.
