El Dorado County will hold the line on traffic impact fees charged for new development.
The Board of Supervisors last week agreed not to boost fees, although estimated costs for road projects needed to serve growth over the next 10 years have increased 4.2 percent, according to the county Department of Transportation.
The traffic impact fee for a new single-family home ranges from $15,430 to $41,700, depending on location.
Jim Ware, transportation director, said he will present to the board this summer options that might reduce costs of Highway 50 interchange projects at Silva Valley Parkway in El Dorado Hills and Cameron Park Drive in Cameron Park.
"I'm all in favor of lowering fees, but we can't do that without reducing the program," Ware told the supervisors.
The fee schedule also does not include a separate category for senior, or age-restricted, housing.
The board last fall endorsed developers' requests to establish lower fees for developments restricted to people age 55 and older.
But Ware said members of an advisory group were unable to reach consensus on whether age-restricted developments produced less traffic than residential developments open to people of all ages.
To create a separate category likely would require additional studies and changes to the county's general plan.
