The high demand for seasonal flu vaccinations combined with fewer available doses than usual has led El Dorado County health officials to cancel several community flu shot clinics.
"The good news is that people have come out to get their seasonal flu vaccine early this year," Cathy Dunbar, county immunization coordinator, said in a news release. "The bad news is that we are running very low. We only have enough vaccine to do a few more vaccination clinics."
Clinics will be held:
Tuesday, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., in the Evergreen Room at the First Baptist Church, 6361 Pony Express Trail, Pollock Pines.
Friday, 2 to 4 p.m., a the Community Church, 5061 Sciaroni Road, Grizzly Flat.
Nov. 10, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe
Nov. 10, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Cameron Park Fire Department, 3200 Country Club Drive, Cameron Park.
Nov. 12, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., in the small game room at the El Dorado Hills Senior Center, 990 Lassen Lane, El Dorado Hills.
Officials said more clinics will be scheduled if additional vaccine becomes available.
The following clinics have been canceled:
Wednesday and Nov. 18 at the Senior Center, South Lake Tahoe
Thursday at the Georgetown Fire Station Georgetown
Nov. 12 at the Garden Valley Fire Department, Garden Valley
Nov. 18 at the Pioneer Bible Church, Somerset
Nov. 19 at the Mother Lode Lions Hall, Diamond Springs
Nov. 19 at the Cool Fire Station, Cool
Nov. 21 at the Divide Wellness Center, Georgetown
Dec. 2 at the Senior Center in South Lake Tahoe
Dec. 2 at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville.
Health officials await shipments of H1N1 flu vaccine, which has been delayed nationwide. Information will be posted on the county Health Services Department Web site when H1N1 vaccine is more broadly available, according to Dunbar. Health officials say they hope to offer H1N1 vaccination clinics for the general public in late November or early December.
