The Eureka Union School District in Granite Bay will hold a special meeting Saturday to consider adopting a lean budget for the 2008-09 school year.
The budget review meeting will start at 4 p.m. at the district office, 5455 Eureka Road. Superintendent Bob Schultz said total expenditures are projected at $28.5 million. The district proposes to cut about 5 percent of its budget, which is about $1.5 million. The most significant changes will include eliminating 11.5 teaching positions and reducing by 7 percent the budget for classified staff salaries; eliminating cost-of-living raises for all staff members; shifting food services to a high school program; spending less on outside agencies for special education programs and relying more on district staff members; and closing two schools in 2009 to save $900,000. The proposed changes and revisions to the proposed stated budget will allow the Eureka district to meet a required level of reserved funding for the next three years, Schultz said.
