Auburn's landmark theater gets a face-lift

Published: Tuesday, Jun. 24, 2008

A new marquee and tower sign for the old State Theatre in Auburn have gone up this week as part of ongoing efforts to renovate the building, which opened in the 1930s and is being rehabilitated at an estimated cost of $6 million.

Jane Amick of the Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center said the multicolored neon sign will be lighted for a July 11 street party in front of the landmark theater at 985 Lincoln Way. The party, which is free and will feature live bands, wine tasting and other entertainment, will be from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

The party will include tri-tip sandwiches on sale by the Auburn Rotary Club, a no-host bar provided by the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce, and soft drinks and other refreshments for children.
