Faced with its first drop in student enrollment in 20 years and uncertain state funding, the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District approved about $1 million in cuts to its 2008-09 budget.
Total expenditures for the next school year are budgeted at about $53 million.
"We are positioned well right now, but in the future it will be very difficult," said Roger Van Putten, district director of fiscal services. The district is projected to lose $735,997 next year because of its 180-student drop in enrollment, he said.
Most of the cuts will affect the district office and administrative work rather than directly impact classrooms.
