SACRAMENTO State fire officials are suspending burn permits in much of Nevada, Placer and Yuba counties beginning today.
Burn permits will be suspended in areas designated as state responsibility areas within the three counties, a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection news release states.
After today, all fires or smoke reported by citizens or spotted by lookouts will be treated as wildfires and firefighters will be dispatched to the scene, the release states.
Anyone violating the burn ban will be cited. Consequences include fines and possible repayment of firefighting costs.
The permit suspension is in effect until rainfall requirements are met in the fall, the release states.
