AUBURN Sutter Auburn Faith has added an obstetrician-gynecologist who will help keep its Family Birth Center open after the departure of two longtime physicians.
James Dunn Jr., a former U.S. Air Force physician, officially starts his practice Wednesday but is already accepting new patients and has been scheduling appointments for the past couple of weeks, according to a Sutter Health news release.
Earlier this year, when Eb Lane and Nancy West announced they would be leaving, Sutter Auburn Faith Chief Administrative Officer Mitch Hanna pledged to keep the Family Birth Center open and began recruiting OB/GYNs.
The hospital is negotiating with other potential candidates, the release said.
After receiving his bachelor's degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., Dunn went on to Lousiana State University Medical School.
Dunn, 38, interned at the Keesler Air Force Base medical center in Biloxi, Miss., and served as a staff OB/GYN at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, and Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield.
Two years ago, he opened a private practice in Porterville near Fresno.
