A campaign is under way at Sierra College to provide wireless Internet access to all district campuses by August.
The Sierra College Foundation has a goal to raise $250,000 for its WiFi Project Campaign, according to a news release. At a campaign kick-off event Tuesday, the foundation announced it had already raised about $100,000.
"Sierra College students, professors, and staff identified wireless Internet access as the No. 1 priority to enhance education and the overall college experience," said Sandra Gallo, president of Associated Students of Sierra College.
Project backers hope to provide wireless Internet access to the main campus in Rocklin and Roseville Gateway, Nevada County and Tahoe-Truckee campuses.
The event was attended by community supporters, Sierra College students, staff and members of the project's Honorary Committee, including Roseville Mayor Jim Gray.
The campaign is expected to wrap up in late August in order for students to begin utilizing the technology in spring 2009.
