AUBURN – The body of a 48-year-old hiker last seen July 4 was discovered Tuesday in a rural area between Truckee and Lake Tahoe, the Placer County Sheriff's Department reported.
The cause of the death of Jesus Lopez Gayton of Truckee is under investigation, sheriff's spokeswoman Dena Erwin said.
Two men riding all-terrain vehicles near Cold Stream Canyon called 911 to report finding a body alongside a dirt road in the remote, rugged area, Erwin said.
Gayton was last seen by family members, who reported him missing the following day, she said.
