Sparks set hills ablaze

Sparks from a passing train apparently started fires that burned 9 acres of brush on hillsides near Loomis on Thursday, an investigator for Cal Fire said Friday.

Capt. Mike Gallagher said the sparks caused three fires on hillsides next to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks along Sierra College Boulevard from English Colony Way to Delmar Avenue about 11:35 a.m.
