Auburn Union School District trustees have denied a petition from a Placerville-based charter school organization to serve home-schooled and independent study students within district boundaries.
The decision came in a 5-0 vote last week. Trustees said Innovative Education Management did not present a sound educational program for the proposed Gold Country Charter School and that it failed to demonstrate the program could be implemented successfully.
"The petitioner did not explain to us or get us the information we needed," district Superintendent Michele Schuetz said.
Innovative Education Management operates four independent study charter schools in California that serve the Sacramento, San Joaquin, Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay areas.
The organization arranges for credentialed teachers to work with students and their families, often in their homes.
