If Rocklin's new red light cameras catch you, tickets start Friday

Published: Tuesday, Jul. 29, 2008

Rocklin police are warning motorists that beginning Friday, citations will be issued to people who run the red lights at Rocklin Road and Interstate 80, where a new photo enforcement program has been added.

For nearly two months, police have issued warnings to people who were photographed speeding through the lights.

Cameras were added to the onramp from westbound Rocklin Road and the offramp from westbound Interstate 80 in June, and police said initially they would issue warnings for a 30-day period ending July 7, said Sgt. Terry Roide.

However, the warning period was extended to Aug. 1.

Through Sunday, police had recorded 670 violations, Roide said, and 310 of them resulted in warnings being sent to the drivers. Roide said 183 violations are still being processed and the remaining 177 were disregarded because of unclear images of the motorists or license plates.

Rocklin's red light photo enforcement program is administered by Redflex Traffic Systems Inc., which is based in Arizona.
