A Placer County supervisorial candidate has picked up a bit of steam in raising money to campaign against the incumbent, Bruce Kranz.
Jennifer Montgomery collected $51,099 from May 18 to June 30, documents filed this week with the Placer County Elections Office show. Kranz, the District 5 supervisor, raised $41,060 during the same period, the documents reveal.
Since Jan. 1, Kranz has raised more money than his opponent, $140,750 to $126,394.
The latest campaign statements show that Montgomery picked up numerous donations of between $100 and $300 from retired people and a hefty $7,000 contribution from the political action committee of the Placer County Public Employees.
Kranz, who has traditionally picked up donations from the development community for his election campaigns, again drew on that strength. The Building Industry Association of Superior California contributed $5,000 while five employees for DeSilva Gates Construction donated a combined $10,000.
Kranz has a three-year fundraising total of $264,618, which includes $97,032 from last year and $26,836 from 2006 as he prepared for his re-election attempt.
Montgomery's fundraising total, which extends over two years, is $142,093, including $15,699 which she gathered last year as she tested the waters for an election attempt.
Montgomery, a resident of Soda Springs, and Kranz, a Colfax resident and a four-year veteran of the Board of Supervisors, qualified for a run-off election in November after finishing as the top two vote-getters in the June 3 primary.
Montgomery received 41 percent while Kranz got 37 percent. A third candidate, Robert "Bob" Houston of Meadow Vista, received 22 percent.
District 5 encompasses the communities east and north of Auburn, including Foresthill, Colfax and Placer County areas in the Tahoe region.
