Placer County search and rescue volunteers are hoping to dial into residents' generosity as they begin telephone solicitations to help buy equipment.
The fundraising blitz began Friday in the Lake Tahoe area, and money raised will be used to buy mobile communications equipment and updated Global Positioning System gear for volunteers, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.
Each year, search and rescue volunteers donate thousands of hours to find hikers, skiers and others that get lost in the county's wildland areas.
Phone solicitors will not ask for credit card information. Anyone wishing to donate will be sent an addressed envelope, the release states.
Donations should be sent only to P.O. Box 4150, Auburn 95604 or P.O. Box 1710, Tahoe City 96145.
