The nanny who went through two mistrials on charges she caused a baby's death by shaking her violently has been deported to Mexico.
Veronica Martinez Salcedo, 38, was given the removal order Aug. 6 in U.S. Immigration Court in San Francisco.
Lori Haley, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said Martinez Salcedo was sent to Mexico the next day.
Martinez Salcedo was arrested by Roseville police after the 2006 death of 16-month-old Hannah Rose Juceam. Hospital physicians concluded Hannah had been shaken, causing brain injuries that led to her death.
The nanny's attorney, Mary Beth Acton, argued in the two criminal trials that the child died of a stroke caused by a blood clot from a previous injury or an illness.
The first jury deadlocked 10-2 in favor of conviction, and the second voted 9-3 for acquittal. The District Attorney's Office decided against a third trial.
Because of her illegal status, she was held in jail in Auburn more than two years.
