Eleven people were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Friday night during sobriety checkpoint operations in which 2,500 vehicles were screened by law enforcement agencies at the boundary line of the cities of Roseville and Citrus Heights.

Roseville police, with help from the Placer County Sheriff's Department and the Rocklin and Lincoln police departments, set up a checkpoint on northbound Auburn Boulevard at Whyte Avenue. They arrested six motorists on suspicion of drunken driving.

The Citrus Heights Police Department set up a checkpoint for southbound traffic on Auburn Boulevard at Linden Lane and apprehended five suspected drunken drivers.

Combined, the agencies had 32 vehicles towed away and issued 71 citations for other traffic violations. In addition, Roseville police made three arrests not related to drunken driving.

Roseville Police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said the non-DUI arrests involved a warrant, a drunken passenger and a driver whose license was suspended.

Nine motorists on the Roseville side were given citations for driver's license violations, and 20 tickets were issued for other traffic-related infractions, Gunther said. Thirteen vehicles were towed away, she said.

On the Citrus Heights side, police issued 42 citations, including 15 for driver's license violations. Five people wanted on warrants were arrested, police said. Nineteen vehicles were towed away, police said.
