A college-prep charter school seeking to open at Rocklin or Whitney high school was turned down again by the Rocklin Unified school board.
In a unanimous vote Wednesday, trustees said the proposed Western Sierra Collegiate Academy failed to meet legal requirements, despite lengthy efforts by the petitioner, Rocklin Academy.
Most district concerns were related to the proposed location of the academy, which would serve seventh- through 12th-grade students on an existing ninth-12th campus.
"We are not anti-charter around here," President Steve Paul said, adding the district has approved three.
David Patterson, executive director of Rocklin Academy, said the district's understanding of charter law is flawed.
Rocklin Academy plans to appeal the decision all the way to the state Board of Education, if necessary.
