Community Watch: Left-turners backed up on Baseline

The problem: Roseville reader Mike Stiles says he's frustrated by the lengthy waits for eastbound Baseline Road motorists to turn left onto northbound Fiddyment Road. Stiles said drivers waiting to make a left turn at the intersection back up traffic onto Baseline Road.
"We need two left-turn lanes there to ease congestion," he said. "It seems to be most congested during commute hours."
The solution: Andrew Gaber, senior civil engineer for the Placer County Department of Public Works, said county officials are aware of the problem.
"We know the intersection needs to be improved, but we're trying to figure out how we can do it," Gaber said, noting that the right-of-way is limited by subdivisions on the northeast and southwest corners of the intersection.
Gaber said county workers lengthened the left-turn lane on Baseline in the past year. "We're going to go out and do some more counts and see if there's any way we can put in the dual left-turn lanes," he said.
If the lanes are approved, Gaber said construction could begin as early as next spring or summer.
