Published: Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007 | Page 2B

AUBURN – The Placer County District Attorney's Office has refiled charges against the nanny accused of shaking a 15-month-old Roseville baby and causing fatal brain injuries.

Veronica Martinez Salcedo, whose first trial ended in a hung jury Oct. 31, is scheduled to begin her second trial April 14.

Martinez Salcedo is charged with assault on a child causing death, said Scott Owens, public information officer for the District Attorney's Office.

A mistrial was declared in her first trial after the jury remained deadlocked despite 11 days of deliberation.

Martinez Salcedo is accused in the May 2006 death of Hannah Rose Juceum and faces 25 years to life in state prison if convicted.
